The Maddux Movement was named after our first Dalmatian, Maddux. As every pet parent has that one animal that changes their life, Maddux is ours. After volunteering at local humane societies, fostering for fellow rescue organizations and becoming certified in Animal Behavior and Welfare, we felt that we could do more. Thus began The Maddux Movement.
When we initially formed in 2020, our mission was to fund and facilitate the rescue of animals from traditional or open-admission shelters to no-kill rescue organizations and sanctuaries. We put funds aside and did the research to find out what we would need to be a successful rescue organization that met the quality standards we desired. Although we still assist other rescue organizations with their transports and rescues, we decided in 2022 to begin taking in our own dogs and help those animals find their forever homes.
We are a small 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, however we are extremely focused and devoted to the quality of care we provide to our animals during their transition rather than the quantity. Dalmatians are an especially loyal breed that do not adjust well to shelter environments and sometimes struggle with being rehomed. Many shelter dalmatians become aggressive and/or destructive due to the unexpected change in environment and high stress levels. Additionally, they are known for having both food and environmental allergies alongside being unable to process the purine content in regular dog food as other breeds can. The risk in feeding them too many purines can lead to crystallization and/or blockages that can even cause death. Therefore we try to keep them out of such environments and instead provide a refuge where they can decompress in a quiet area providing items to mentally and physically stimulate as well as enrich them. Each Dalmatian that we rescue is fostered and tested in a board members home to assess their temperament, socialization skills, and trainability. We truly take each one in determined to treat them and love them like one of our own.
While The Maddux Movement does specialize in Dalmatian rescues as we are knowledgeable and highly experienced with the Dalmatian breed, we have decided to not be a breed specific rescue. We will remain breed focused however we will not turn away other dogs that are in need based on their breed. This will allow us to continue and broaden our rescue efforts for years to come!
All of our dogs are spayed/neutered, microchipped and up to date on vaccinations (including leptospirosis and canine influenza). All of our dogs are spayed/neutered, microchipped and up to date on vaccinations (including leptospirosis and canine influenza). Additionally, each adopted dog will be sent home with a new Fi Series 2 GPS Tracker Smart Dog Collar (with a 1 year subscription), a copy of The Forever Dog Life by Rodney Habib and Dr. Karen Becker, a Dalmatian dog blanket and a personalized adoption kit catered to each individual dog. As a small but quality focused rescue, we look forward to setting you and your new family member up for success!
We appreciate your support and donations as we continue to expand our rescue efforts!
